My version of Lydia is practically indestructible and seems to be able to kill anything that doesn't have an unkillable tag on it including groups of Giants and Mammoths, Falmer and Forsworn. The only conclusion I can draw is that Lydia's leveling is glitched for some of these players while others simply don't know how to optimize followers for combat.
